The study analyzes the positions held by alumni from their first job to their current position, highlighting the greater prevalence of general manager and managerial positions.

The Portuguese Institute of Marketing Administration (IPAM) has just presented the results of its recent study on the professional development of its alumni, carried out between March and September 2023. This study, which analyzed the careers of 1171 former students (alumni), reveals remarkable professional progress and the effectiveness of the training offered by IPAM.

With a balanced participation between genders and a predominance of residents in Portugal, especially in Lisbon and Porto, the study highlights the strong presence of IPAM alumni in the national and international job market. Around 94% of alumni work in Portugal, with 39.4% in Lisbon and 33.7% in Porto. Only 6.1% work abroad, of which 66.7% are in Europe, with Spain and the United Kingdom being the most significant European destinations.

There has been a significant evolution in the careers of the participants, with an increase in leadership positions and a diversification in the sectors in which they work. 13.5% of IPAM alumni currently hold the position of General Manager, 11.3% Commercial Manager and 8.7% Marketing Manager. Taking into account the position they held when they entered the job market, 14.1% held the position of Commercial Manager, 13.9% Marketing Assistant and 10.8% Commercial Assistant.

With regard to the sectors of the companies where alumni work, the “top 3” remains unchanged, but with different incidences: Manufacturing (21.1% in the 1st Job / 24.1% in the Current Job), Services (15.1% in the 1st Job / 20.8% in the Current Job) and Retail (14.9% in the 1st Job / 9.9% in the Current Job).

“IPAM celebrates the success of its alumni and reaffirms its commitment to offering a quality education, preparing students to face the challenges of the global job market. This analysis not only reinforces the value of the training acquired at IPAM but also highlights the institution as a pillar in the education of future leaders in the world of business and marketing,” says Daniel Sá, IPAM's Executive Director.
