IPAM and European University celebrate Research Day with discussions on funding and Academic Excellence Awards
On October 29th, the European University and IPAM brought together teachers, researchers and students in the Auditorium of the Quinta do Bom Nome Campus to celebrate Research Day.
The event highlighted the future of research at both institutions and addressed relevant topics such as funding opportunities, good practices in preparing proposals and the importance of science communication.
The session was opened by Prof. Hélia Gonçalves Pereira, Rector of the European University, followed by an intervention by Christian Ramos, from the Science Management Office, on the scientific panorama at the institution. Marlene Nunes, Libraries Supervisor, presented the resources available to support researchers.
One of the most eagerly awaited sessions was led by Mafalda Dourado, ANI's national contact point for the Horizon Europe program, who explored funding opportunities for research. During the round table, moderated by Ana Passos, Director of Research at the European University and IPAM, best practices in submitting funding proposals were discussed, with the participation of experts in the field, including Diogo Monteiro, Emília Duarte and Mafalda Dourado herself.
The afternoon included an inspiring talk by Professor Luís Oliveira e Silva, from Instituto Superior Técnico, who shared “Lessons learned from a (random) LA trip to Europe: turbulence, tidal waves and lasers”. This was followed by the presentation of five relevant articles produced by researchers from the European University and IPAM, which reaffirmed the institution's commitment to impact research.
At the end, the 2023 Research Awards were presented in the presence of Marta Bicho, director of IPAM Lisboa, Carla Costa, director of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Technology at the European University, Carlos Rosa, director of IADE, and Teresa Santos, director of the Faculty of Sciences at the European University. Marta Entradas, a professor at ISCTE, closed the event with a session dedicated to science communication.
This Research Day stood out as a moment to share and strengthen the scientific community of the European University and IPAM, promoting excellence and collaboration in academic research.
